☝🏾A yoga instructor said this as I was mid warrior one.
⠀⠀
She said to release your jaw.
She said to relax your shoulders.
She said to soften your edges.
⠀⠀
And through my tightened jaw and very stressed out shoulders, I glared at her.
⠀⠀
I hardened my edges and myself...mostly against the potential embarrassment of falling over in front of this yoga class (which at this point was a very real possibility).
⠀⠀
The first 45 minutes of this 75 minute class I spent the way I spend my time out in the world. Steeling myself against danger. Doing my best not to show pain or suffering.
⠀⠀
And then something clicked during chair pose (which btw is the devil in disguise for us Unbalanced Ursulas out there).
⠀⠀
I nearly fell on my face doing it on the first side.
⠀⠀
But when I hit the second, I chose to try it her way. I softened. I said “if I fall, I fall and I get back up.” I released.
⠀⠀
And your girl stayed steady like a damn LIGHTHOUSE.
⠀⠀
I almost cried. In the middle of my Hatha yoga class, I 👏🏾 almost 👏🏾 cried 👏🏾

Because release...it really can feel that sweet.

I cancelled my membership group.
⠀⠀
Yup, my baby. My pride and joy and thing I planned for months on end.
⠀⠀
Cancelled. Like a good pilot season of a show that just wasn’t at the right time or on the right station.
⠀⠀
I made one of those hard decisions as a business owning individual - at what point do you press on with an idea, even when you know it’s not the right fit?
⠀⠀
My answer - when giving yourself to the project feels like work. And/or when you need to give that energy back to yourself.
⠀⠀
Even before I launched my membership earlier this year, I was feeling drained.
⠀⠀
Even though I was slowly starting to deal with more personal and mental health issues, I jumped into it.
⠀⠀
Even though I wasn’t 100% sure I could commit the time and energy.
Even though a small voice said not to.
⠀⠀
Because I said I would.
Because I thought I owed it to my audience.
Because I thought it was the key to achieving my dream of running my own business full time.
⠀⠀
Because because because…I used it as an excuse, as a reason to ignore my soul and press on.
⠀⠀
But the real word I needing to be using was “despite”.
⠀⠀
Despite making the commitment, I need to take care of myself.
Despite me changing my mind, I can still find success in my business.
Despite what anyone else thinks, I need to take care of priority numero uno.
And numero uno is me.
⠀⠀
So today, after not posting on this feed for almost two months. After not listening to myself for almost three, I’m here with a message. And a questions. Always a questions.
⠀⠀
It’s ok, at any moment, at any time, to say “I’m choosing me.”
⠀⠀
So despite all the things, what are you letting go of today?

I've been doing something crazy...I’m reading a lot lately...for pleasure! 😱
⠀⠀
For all of 2018 and tbh most of 2017, I only read for information.
⠀⠀
Business and personal development and self help sections were my go to. And I hands down learned a lot, so mission accomplished there!
⠀⠀
But what I lost out on was my passion for reading. I forgot what it felt like to lose yourself in a good story. To read for relaxation and adventure and drama and intrigue rather than to try to "level up".
⠀⠀
So a few weeks ago I sold almost all of my business books at a secondhand bookstore. And I replaced them with some new stories about life and love and crime and all those things that I used to love to read.
⠀⠀
I let myself drop the perception that I needed to increase my intelligence and skill in order to find success.
⠀⠀
And I embraced the idea that I'm already successful and I might as well read a book I enjoy over a cup of tea to celebrate.
⠀⠀
Now because of this newfound commitment to just reading whatever the eff I want, I have made it through 3 books in two weeks...I read 3 books in 2018 total...so needless to say I'm running out of options, and fast.
⠀⠀
So what're your favorite books to get lost in? I'm hearing another trip to Half Price Books calling my name ;)

P.S. I'm kinda thinking of starting a book club as part of the Got You Girl Collective...thoughts?

For real. If I hadn't gone through hard shit, I wouldn't be shit.
⠀⠀
I probably wouldn’t be so obsessed with how we can create safe spaces.
⠀⠀
I wouldn’t be so passionate about making sure that all of our voices, from the loud and proud roars to the gentle, hesitant meows, are heard.
⠀⠀
I wouldn’t be so into the idea of hosting events and workshops and coffee chats for women who have dreams that are so big that sometimes their minds can’t even handle it all. The women who have so much magic inside of them and that are determined to see the magic in others too.
⠀⠀
I probably wouldn't have had the idea to start my own community. I wouldn’t have the courage it takes to put myself out there and be vulnerable and talk about hard things, even when I don’t fully understand them.

I wouldn’t be me.
⠀⠀
And friend, if you hadn’t weathered your storms, you wouldn’t be you either.

Anyone else sooo over traditional goals?

I figured, because I've noticed something different in everyone's resolutions this year.
⠀⠀
We're moving past business growth and follower counts.
⠀⠀
And we're adding in personal growth and counting how many times a day we take a break or a breath or a moment to show some gratitude.
⠀⠀
I think 2018 tested a lot of us (you can’t see, but both my hands are raised. And a foot for good measure) 🙋🏾‍♀️
⠀⠀
And it made us realize that 5 or 50 years from now we really won't care about all the things we obsses so much over (like the perfect font or color or saying everything exactly the right way..because who is determing what's right anyway? Because I'd like to have a word or two with them about some of their bs).
⠀⠀
So in 2019 let's try something different.
⠀⠀
Let's not worry so much about the how, or what; the when or the where. Let's obsess over the who.
⠀⠀
The who we are becoming, the who we are together, the who we can look at 50 years from now and obsess over.
⠀⠀
So who is your 2019 self? Mine’s bold, whether that be fearlessly or fearfully. She loves and believes in herself. And she goes to bed by 10:30 on weekdays.
